Winner Take All

Those who own the earth we live on are gamblers who set the stakes. For them, it all boils down to money. It is a conversion factor from life into chips. The one who has the most chips when the tally closes, wins. Closure is set by mass extinction.

People are called to mine various resources. Their technique, make it fast does not fit in with supporting life. Take Mountain Top Removal, the pollution of streams, the landslides killing people.  Money makes the decision. Some dig for oil, some for precious metals, diamonds or this or that. Some raise food, monocropping using chemicals that kill insects, Monarch butterflies and and kill us as well;  They raise animals in vast quantities in factory settings. Chickens and turkeys and pigs are raised  in tiny spaces. Cattle eat out of vats of corn. Chickens are bred  to have such such huge breasts they  can barely walk. Many fall  and are trarompled. All are upset by crowding and by not the living in  an open field to eat worms and bugs and plants and run about. Most are given anti biotics to ward off pre-harvest death. The anti biotic remains in their flesh which we eventually consume. Among other things, we soon will be unreactive to anit biotics when we need them to fight infection. Peole will die from a cut on their leg.

Since they number in the thousands, their shit and piss is collected and drained into huge ponds. Hurricanes release floods of waste onto all that is in its path. Waste  is mechanically blown into the air when the pond gets too full to rain down on locals whose houses lose all value. The people’s who live in this flood of waste lead hellish lives.

What about the politicians who set the rules which protect their citizens or instead  away from consequences? Take Jerry Brown, Governor of California mourns the huge  number of fires ravaging California. Incidentaly, prisoners are paid $2/day to fire fight. They  are not given enough instruction to be fire fighters once released from prison. Is that another save money proposition for those who own the prisons?

What is the gambler’s stake in this catastrophe? Who is profiting from ignoring it. The soil is dry from drought. The trees lack water to fight flames. Planes spread chamicals to shield the  earh from the sun, a fact denied by congress. It is not jet trail when a plane goes back and forth to create parallel lines of chemicals. The chemicals including mercury rain down onto the soil and into the roots of tree which kills them. They easily burst into flames when fire comes near.

The politician, here Jerry Brown, states helpless consternation and that things can only get worse. But wait! Jerry Brown is allowing oil wells to be dug in California. The oil which is sold then heats the atmosphere which creates the flames. Is Brown too stupid to see the connection. Or is a payoff in his pocket? How many politicans are in the gamble now, hoping to miss the final extinction while becoming wealthy?

Do Something

Government will do nothing for us. The price for candidates running for office is paid for by corporations which later will determine their vote. Slaves, servants, gold diggers, addicts, “buy me” people will make pleasant speeches to the common person about all the good they will do but once elected you are ignored and forgotten. Speeches go in the “seduce them” file undoubtedly to be used again.

Are we commoners to give up and fade away? Are we to beg alms from such as these? Come on, now friend. The bank door is closed.  Be real. We have-to come together, stand together, think together. We need to choose people to vote for from our neighborhood, people we know. If they do not come through once in office, we throw them out. We do not fall for Madison Avenue publicity images and lies. We have-to ignore pressure to turn against one another in order to divide us. white against black, man against woman, hetero against homo, “Americans” against Muslims, anti-teachers, anti-newspapers and on and on. We are being manipulated to vent our rage against people who are in the same boat as we are rather than against politicians that steal from us.

Should we join unions? Yes. In union there is strength. Do not listen to those who hold the purse full of your unpaid wages, trying to convince you that joining a union robs you of your freedom. Speaking together with one voice has power. The corporate elected whore worries. Unions inform that person, you/we will not vote for you again unless we get better wages, health care, retirement benefits, vacation time, job security, like you once promised? Hold the politician’s feet to the fire. They need to feel the heat.

Get together with neighbors and share community tasks. Find your specialty. Make sure that everyone has enough to eat. Do not throw away usable stuff including food. Think about pollution. Eat locally grown foods in season, so that you are not burning fuel to get Thai fruit in winter. Pay your local farmer a good price. Practice NIMBY (Not in my back yard) and decide how big your yard is. No destruction to be allowed there.

Fight to keep your water free of corporate waste. Don’t go to sleep after the election. Know what your elected officials are doing. Are your schools in good shape, supplies provided along with breakfast and lunch? Are teachers rewarded for good teaching; if you are doing NIMBY and your yard includes distant parks, fight against digging for oil in the Arctic where all kinds of animals reproduce. Love polar bears and wolves and eagles and whales and plankton and krill and… “45” wants to look at financial loss when deciding what to preserve. Say “No!” to that. He wants to put decision making about what to protect in the hands of states which lack the money and will to protect almost anything. Don’t let our government end the Endangered Species Act because it interferes with profit. If oil is more important than the preservation of life for a politician addicted to the buck, vote him/her out!

Turn off the TV and internet. Stop enacting a state of helpless non-existence. Enter the world of people, animals, plants. Revel in what you can do to help and do it.

And Then They Ate Their Own

Heard an amazing native American speaker today on Ghost Horse’s WBAI program, Barbara Smith who wrote a book called, Spirits of Blood, Spirits of Breath: The Twinned Cosmos of Indigenous America. She spoke of the multiplicity of gods and customs of natives everywhere which keeps the people alive and well and spiritual, creative and in touch with all things including each other.

The invading Europeans are a different mentality, raiders who see everything as theirs to take. Part of their spreading their own dehumanization is worshipping only one god. They call that god the true god; the call everyone else’s false. To have the wrong god makes you less than human. They aim for standardization, reducing the meaning of the world into a sale price. All is a gigantic supermarket and you acquire its products by shopping with a gun.

We shop in “primitive” cultures by invading them to take their natural resources. Although no war has been declared, we drop as many endless tons of bombs as needed. But that is not enough. Still too many cultures claiming they own their own stuff. Still too many invaders grabbing everywhere for more.

The invaders now are turning on their own. The national parks will be subdivided so that oil can be dug out leaving a dead earth. We’re to dig for oil in the Arctic where natives have lived for thousands of years. Instead of 2 months to discuss the coming invasion, they will get 2 weeks. The governor of the Arctic region, already well paid off (and part of the take it culture), thinks that taking minerals from that region is a good thing. Death to the point of extinction of birds and fish and bears and caribou and … all the wildlife are ignored. The local tribal people who live on and preserve these animals don’t count. There is no money in preservation for the invaders.

Theft and invasion within a nation continues. What about aid to dependent children, health care for young and old, solar power instead of oil and gas and nuclear? What about medicine when needed, public transportation? Are there no rules left to protect and serve? Well, these may be written down somewhere but invaders do not need follow rules. The invaders declare themselves the owners, and owners make the rules.

“Owners” have the philosophy: we need that thing more than it needs itself; let those who lack the power lose and die.

Money Made From Disaster

There is the flood in Puerto Rico, a US colony since the late 18oos. The US did not allow waiting nations deliver supplies. Imports have to bow to the Jones act which means that imports must first come to the US and change boats to go elsewhere. What impoverished nation can afford the price of importation now?

Disaster did not start with the flood. There were years of underfunding governmental maintained things like electricity so that the island would fall apart when subjected to environmental stress. The governor allowed the Promessa Act so that when disaster strikes, he can kick natives off their underfunded jobs and allow foreigners to make the decisions and the money. The foreigners often lack training and understanding of the terrain and the job itself but they do know where the money is. Puerto Ricans   without water and electricity die. Hospitals without electricity and supplies see patients die in great numbers. The current count is approaching 5,000. Those who can flee to Florida. This empty out of an occupied nation was planned for.  Now non-PR millionaires can build hotels on the stolen beaches and create a vacation paradise.

Whenever you can’t understand some event, look at where the money goes.

Take the Price Tag Off

Everything has a price on it, and, for most, the price is exceedingly low but only for those who have got the bucks. We of that impoverished socio-economic class are expendable. The two things necessary for life, air and water, are for sale. Soon we will have water wars and drought tombs, while scarcity and waste create markets to propel those few at the top.

The corporations want to exude their waste into the air and water without paying for it and not looking back. They bribe the officials who are there to profit by selling off natural resources. Nestle’s corporation cornered Michigan that way, taking 400 tons of water per minute out of a great lake, every day for free.

On the other hand, the people of Flint Michigan drink filthy water from corroded pipes pouring lead into their children’s brains, to save the state some pennies. Recently, they even stopped sending bottled water while the lead keeps pouring in. Only the rich get saved.

Life on the globe with ever less drinking water is unfortunate but also very profitable for the “thems” that control it. Money is a thing we have been taught to worship. Do you own stocks in a water eating firm? Do you pull down your mental shades so as not to see what it is being taken away and used up? You are thinking of retirement. Need money for that. Period.

Is everything for sale? Should it be? Do you think of the 7th generation when determining whether and what to do? Drilling for oil in the Arctic park as Trump intends will kill countless species. But look at the profit oil will make for the few. Given our obsession with extraction as if there need be no limit, it is a time for most us of to become extremely poor, a time of unbelievable profit for the few. How we admire those who are riding high. Our admiration is bizarre. We are applauding our downfall. Some even say that god has favored those who “got it.” They worship the god of theft.

Do we feel paralyzed and helpless? Do we hope to join the rich pack? Do we not know how to do anything about their price on the world? Are we afraid to talk about it and get on the rich folk’s kill’em list?

We need to live in a priceless world. Everything needs a right to exist, none above and none below. We need to protect Mother Earth and leave life in all its forms to reproduce, to morph into something new and wonderful. Hooray for the unexpected. We join the family of the living.

We need to greet each species with wonder. How amazing and beautiful. What talents does it possess? We enjoy as we pass each other with a spoken hello. We embrace those that come forward. We celebrate life. We protect water and air as a shared resource, not as a profit potential.

The War On Terror Is A Scam

Nothing is being fixed by military might. No bad foreign folk are missing now except the few that have been replaced by similar characters. We are not in “terrorist dominated” countries to make the world a safe and democratic place. This idea is a propaganda front for wars we hardly know are happening. Nor do we pay attention their enormous cost. A debtor nation due to war is walking in Rome’s footsteps.

The War on Terror, which started after 9/11, is ongoing and is now in about 68 nations. As a result, foreign cities are filled with crumbled buildings and fleeing refugees who have no place to go.  Trump attacks Muslims refugees made homeless by our bombs. John Pilger, world student, writer, and film-maker, writes that US actions have nothing to do with fighting terrorism but are instead part of an open-ended war for global dominance and control of valuable oil resources. The real danger facing humanity, he says, is the increasingly aggressive military action of American imperialism and the state terrorism orchestrated by it.

We wrongly focus on Trump’s imbecility, work to have him declared incompetent (which he likely is but not much more than those he has selected to work beside him). His tweet obsession keeps us distracted from what is going on. How do we stop the imperialistic movement from taking over our democracy, turning it into a medieval state of royalty and vassals? We cannot believe the nonsense spouted by our two-party system. They feed at a common trough. The movement largely funded by Koch brothers and other billionaires aims to privatize everything.

Most of what they say is wishful lies, including those to make us fearful of so-called terrorism bearing down on us so that we give up our civil rights. Those newly armed policemen with military grade machine guns and even tanks rolling on our town streets are home-grown terrorists who keep us fearful. The highest number of imprisoned people in the world gets rid of “surplus” unemployed people. Those who kill, maim, arrest us are not there to serve and protect.

We need a 3rd party. We need rank order voting without an electoral college which ignores the popular vote. We came here to be free of English taxation and foreign control. Now the disease has reawakened among the US royalists. We need to face the truth of how we, the vastly greater number of people, are being manipulated by a small minority in Congress. We need to come together in lasting protest to protect ourselves from the take-over crew.  We need to vote and for our vote to count.
