And Then There Were None

This country when Columbus arrived called it terra vida (empty land) but that was a lie. The country had Indian nations long time settled here who regarded it as their home. But their occupation did not please those who came to freely take it, So there was killing. Lots of killing. Indians were killed in Massachusetts at a time we have labeled Thanksgiving, as if the Indians and the new settlers came together to share a feast of corn and turkeys rather than the Indians be murdered. Many were treaties signed to give reservation land to a few and the newcomers keep the rest. Many were sent on the Trail of Tears to foreign regions, many dying on the way. Those hard to live on far away areas are now being reclaimed by the national Kleptomaniacs for coal and oil and fracked gas and uranium. Treaties ceding these lands to Indians are broken and ignored.

Then came a new form of extraction by the new comers, those who worked for free. Slaves. It was said that slaves were insensitive folk, hardly caring if their children are sold, their marriages broken, female bodies raided for sex and to produce more young-ones to work the fields, clean the house, care for the master’s young, The child with such a nanny is eventually taught not to love that woman, to see her as inferior.

Those post Columbus travelers came to steal. Today, our economy remains framed on extraction. We dig into the earth for oil; we send poisonous gases into the earth to frack gas leaving behind poisoned water. We shave the tops of mountains for coal. Fracking causes  earth quakes. All our burning of gas and oil heats the air which dries out trees, root, leaf and limb and causes  enormous forest fires. We use the waterways as dumping places.  We fill the ocean with plastic which breaks down more and more but does not disappear. Animals eat plastic as if jelly fish.  Turtles are smothered, strangled. Every animal has ingested our poisonous waste. We destroy Milkweed which feeds the Monarch butterfly. We poison bees that pollinate our crops. Nothing gets away. We raid life to make a quick buck and get rid of EPA authorities that tell us we need to stop.

We treat the earth as a lifeless object. Greed is in the driver’s seat. We need all these life forms to survive and are finding it out the hard way. We need to stop it now.

Nation of Plantations

We, US citizens are on a downward life spiral as money for just about everything falls upward to the rich. Evidence of this is our diminishing life span, a shorter life span from one year to the next. People can’t afford insurance plans, decent food, the cost of drugs. Public schools are unfunded and falling apart. People are not being trained by pubic schools for jobs that don’t exist. College graduates have un-payable school loans with ever mounting interest have no right to declare bankruptcy. Graduates enter the indentured class and live in their parent’s basement, if there is one. Many fall from the middle class and live in their cars.
People are not having babies. Too expensive. Abortion rights are under fire and Social Security whose corporate name is given as “entitlement” rather than life-time monthly investment by workers. Social Security is also is in the rich man’s sights. Money for war Endless. Who benefits from what is taken?
You want to make a living? Fight for 15 dollar an hour pay. Only money makes money. Look at the recent tax break for the rich. Those who were told that their salaries would increase by a picayune amount will pay it back in taxes when the learn that their entitlements are no more. Fooled and fooled again.
Will the newly elected House liberals (mostly women) dig in their heels and fight for a return to decency? This country with its need to invade everywhere with desirable natural resources (currently Venezuela) has lost world respect. Will this new group of the elected not born into money, hold out for what is right and not fall prey to money offered by Wall Street bankers.

The other day Trump’s EPA representative, drawn from people who are against preservation, made an exception of the right to spray crops that attract bees with a toxic pesticide that will kill them. Can the environmental organizations which are always struggling for legal dough, be able to stop them? When the bees are wiped out, crops which need the seed spread by bees will die. They die. Food dies. We die.
Some mystics say that the devil is polishing us off. I prefer to think it short sighted greed. What are you and I going to do to support the interdependent life all all species including ourselves?

Play at Being You

I  have let so many thoughts and feelings go bye that I think I have lost the touch. How do you know when giving up is a good thing or actually on the way to doing a better thing?  It all depends on why.

I learned to give up half-way to some landing place from a family that trampled on my ideas and behavior as soon as they heard or observed them. I learned to avoid their hatred by giving a up first. I maintain my connection to these rejecting folk by doing to myself what they would do.

So getting on with things in my world of doing:  what is my next to do thing after writing this piece. I want to look into how to build a garden on my apartment building roof. Can the place afford it? How much will a large garden cost? How much will it save in electric power for the building to cool itself in summer, heat in winter? Imagine how good it will feel to sit beneath parasols in summer; the pleasure of gardening and selling the vegetables or eating them. Imagine the joy of creating something that lives.

What is first on your list? If you have no list, dive into your imagination and do whatever comes up. No quitting now. We are not caring about whether the idea is bad or good.  Do not be afraid of being a wild youth again or for the first time. Remember how Alice met the Red Queen after eating the magic mushrooms which gave or took away height. We all can grow or shrink that way.

It’s all a game. The game of life.No winners and no losers. Just the need to stretch in all directions. Do what calls you first. Then do what calls you next. Live.

The Need to Destroy

Do you ever ask why we humans are driven to destroy all that lives which includes ourselves?

Why did President Trump make it OK to kill baby wolves during their winter hibernation in a den with Mommy

Does killing make a bully strong?

Our government gets its impoverished citizens to harvest coal, gas, oil..

We use the energy of harvested carbon products and watch the world heat up. 12 years given to turn things around folks before no change is possible.

Our forests burn along with houses. Our cities flood. Our crops die in emerging deserts.

We do not blame ourselves for it.

Trump and his associates want to reduce the size of the national parks in order to dig for coal and gas and oil.

It’s all about money and power.

Perhaps those in charge have already died except for their banking minds which still walk and talk and imprison blacks for minor crimes and play golf,

Now that so many white millionaires are going to jail, they are working to limit jail time.

Why do we hate people who are different from us, race, sex, religion, sexual orientation?

Why do we choose death for the many rather than life for all?

Does the idea of scarcity destroy us?

Is ownership the religion of death?

Keep off my property before I shoot you.

The greater our fear the more we kill.

I kill you to deny that I will die.

Is violence our road to heaven?

Does God wear a gun?

Are we sane?

Take It While You Can

Trump believes in global warming. That’s why he is asking Ireland to put a fence around his golf course. The so-called leaders, almost all in the pockets of corporations, claim not to believe but that largely is a lie. The truth of the matter was recently shown by the government’s willingness to allow cars to pollute even more than they do now because they accept that we are fated to set the world on fire so that nothing can survive. To turn away from burning carbon, i.e. oil, means losing money from the corporations in which they are invested.  Instead they decide to make as much money NOW  as is possible from their carbon investments. Death is shoved to a dark corner of their minds.

In like manner, they want to dig for oil in the Arctic.  This will kill innumerable animals including ourselves.  They do not believe in switching to green power, living creatively and scientifically and simply in a surviving world. They need to own or buy an endless supply of everything. Better to sacrifice the world to have it now.

This is the most dangerous bunch of so-called leaders the world has ever known.  Hitler would kill all the Jews and gypsies. Our current group of tyrants will sacrifice all life. They are willing to sacrifice the future to continue living as they do. Sacrifice is not in their vocabulary. Having it all rules the day.

This is insanity. See the danger that lies ahead and  ignore it. Increase your dangerous actions to take more of what remains. Malign those traveling towards our border in quest of  safety, food, a place to stay, medicine, for their sick children, The President labels these immigrants invaders and denies what the US has done to make their country unlivable. Throwing a stone towards imaginary dangers distracts us from seeing that they are taking money from our social services. Guns are sold almost everywhere so that the desperate ones can kill fellow sufferers whom they incorrectly blame for their suffering.

A man kills women in a yoga class. He has long hated women. A man kills Jews in a synagogue. He blames Jews for his lack of money.  A man shoots blacks in a supermarket after being unable to break into a black church. The un-cared for population is stimulated to attack similarly impoverished people. Violence is revved up against the impoverished by the super rich whose hand is in the till.

Death for all awaits us if we vote for people who are unwilling to change our economy and life to green.  Don’t turn against your neighbor. Hold hands and plan for a good-for-all economy. We can do it.

Attacking Decency

It is with increasing horror that I read or listen to the news. All things that share in my love of life, all that the forces of government are supposed to be supporting, making safer, purer, are being vanquished, sold, demolished by those who make the rules. It is like a nightmare from which I do not wake.

And what do we the lowly citizens do about it? Americans mostly wring their hands in misery and hopelessness. Either that or deny the mounting disaster, say it’s not happening to me, refuse to see the loss which is directly set before them, certainly not in some distant place.

A major recent change from a passive to active comes from high school students, the original ones mowed down at school, and now in increasing numbers, set against people having military guns used in mass shooting. They are going to the elected people, to DC Congress. They are warning those who turn away from them as juvenile, that soon all of them will vote.

Another group that has come together in shared alarm is the Indians. They first met to pray for and stand in front of digging equipment, that wants to put Tar Sands oil pipes beneath the Missouri. Spills have to happen and have been happening since impurities in the oil break the pipe. A contaminated water will be drunk by thousands even millions, few of them native. The Indians say water is life.

Government keeps selling land to those would extract oil, gas, use chemically enhanced fracking, all which destroy the plants and animals that live in the region including, humans, to earn magabucks for the few. ICE seizes the children of undocumented immigrants crossing the southern border. Babies, toddlers, are pulled out the arms and from the hands of parents and then sent to far away stations. Parents are told that their children are going to get a shower never to return. For most, there is no explanation. . Parents likely will never see their child again. Government says they do this to discourage immigrants. It’s cruelty is beyond explanation. The AG calls it an act of law. They even quote parts of the bible to make it sound God ordained. The tiny part they quote was favored by Good Christian slave holders. What ever happened to the separation of church and state?

But above all, taking away kids is a money maker. They will build tent cities on army bases. The private corporations running this concentration camp will make a mint. For the kids it is a deadly loss. They are destroyed by the loss of their loving parent. Have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) from which they will never recover.

One father of a 3-year old son torn from his arms committed suicide that night in his cell by hanging. A so-called expert about suicide called the man weak. Said mentally stronger people could handle such a terrible loss. This so-called expert minimized the effects of such abuse to fit in with the submissive crowd

A season of madness is upon us. Madness is a form of disconnection. It is only when we are hand to hand, heart to heart and eye to eye with others including the non-human world that we come to sanity. Instead we scorn the homeless people sleeping on the street. We scorn the people sickened by pollution in their slums until the poison surrounds and kills us all.

Take the Price Tag Off

Everything has a price on it, and, for most, the price is exceedingly low but only for those who have got the bucks. We of that impoverished socio-economic class are expendable. The two things necessary for life, air and water, are for sale. Soon we will have water wars and drought tombs, while scarcity and waste create markets to propel those few at the top.

The corporations want to exude their waste into the air and water without paying for it and not looking back. They bribe the officials who are there to profit by selling off natural resources. Nestle’s corporation cornered Michigan that way, taking 400 tons of water per minute out of a great lake, every day for free.

On the other hand, the people of Flint Michigan drink filthy water from corroded pipes pouring lead into their children’s brains, to save the state some pennies. Recently, they even stopped sending bottled water while the lead keeps pouring in. Only the rich get saved.

Life on the globe with ever less drinking water is unfortunate but also very profitable for the “thems” that control it. Money is a thing we have been taught to worship. Do you own stocks in a water eating firm? Do you pull down your mental shades so as not to see what it is being taken away and used up? You are thinking of retirement. Need money for that. Period.

Is everything for sale? Should it be? Do you think of the 7th generation when determining whether and what to do? Drilling for oil in the Arctic park as Trump intends will kill countless species. But look at the profit oil will make for the few. Given our obsession with extraction as if there need be no limit, it is a time for most us of to become extremely poor, a time of unbelievable profit for the few. How we admire those who are riding high. Our admiration is bizarre. We are applauding our downfall. Some even say that god has favored those who “got it.” They worship the god of theft.

Do we feel paralyzed and helpless? Do we hope to join the rich pack? Do we not know how to do anything about their price on the world? Are we afraid to talk about it and get on the rich folk’s kill’em list?

We need to live in a priceless world. Everything needs a right to exist, none above and none below. We need to protect Mother Earth and leave life in all its forms to reproduce, to morph into something new and wonderful. Hooray for the unexpected. We join the family of the living.

We need to greet each species with wonder. How amazing and beautiful. What talents does it possess? We enjoy as we pass each other with a spoken hello. We embrace those that come forward. We celebrate life. We protect water and air as a shared resource, not as a profit potential.
