Take It While You Can

Trump believes in global warming. That’s why he is asking Ireland to put a fence around his golf course. The so-called leaders, almost all in the pockets of corporations, claim not to believe but that largely is a lie. The truth of the matter was recently shown by the government’s willingness to allow cars to pollute even more than they do now because they accept that we are fated to set the world on fire so that nothing can survive. To turn away from burning carbon, i.e. oil, means losing money from the corporations in which they are invested.  Instead they decide to make as much money NOW  as is possible from their carbon investments. Death is shoved to a dark corner of their minds.

In like manner, they want to dig for oil in the Arctic.  This will kill innumerable animals including ourselves.  They do not believe in switching to green power, living creatively and scientifically and simply in a surviving world. They need to own or buy an endless supply of everything. Better to sacrifice the world to have it now.

This is the most dangerous bunch of so-called leaders the world has ever known.  Hitler would kill all the Jews and gypsies. Our current group of tyrants will sacrifice all life. They are willing to sacrifice the future to continue living as they do. Sacrifice is not in their vocabulary. Having it all rules the day.

This is insanity. See the danger that lies ahead and  ignore it. Increase your dangerous actions to take more of what remains. Malign those traveling towards our border in quest of  safety, food, a place to stay, medicine, for their sick children, The President labels these immigrants invaders and denies what the US has done to make their country unlivable. Throwing a stone towards imaginary dangers distracts us from seeing that they are taking money from our social services. Guns are sold almost everywhere so that the desperate ones can kill fellow sufferers whom they incorrectly blame for their suffering.

A man kills women in a yoga class. He has long hated women. A man kills Jews in a synagogue. He blames Jews for his lack of money.  A man shoots blacks in a supermarket after being unable to break into a black church. The un-cared for population is stimulated to attack similarly impoverished people. Violence is revved up against the impoverished by the super rich whose hand is in the till.

Death for all awaits us if we vote for people who are unwilling to change our economy and life to green.  Don’t turn against your neighbor. Hold hands and plan for a good-for-all economy. We can do it.

Attacking Decency

It is with increasing horror that I read or listen to the news. All things that share in my love of life, all that the forces of government are supposed to be supporting, making safer, purer, are being vanquished, sold, demolished by those who make the rules. It is like a nightmare from which I do not wake.

And what do we the lowly citizens do about it? Americans mostly wring their hands in misery and hopelessness. Either that or deny the mounting disaster, say it’s not happening to me, refuse to see the loss which is directly set before them, certainly not in some distant place.

A major recent change from a passive to active comes from high school students, the original ones mowed down at school, and now in increasing numbers, set against people having military guns used in mass shooting. They are going to the elected people, to DC Congress. They are warning those who turn away from them as juvenile, that soon all of them will vote.

Another group that has come together in shared alarm is the Indians. They first met to pray for and stand in front of digging equipment, that wants to put Tar Sands oil pipes beneath the Missouri. Spills have to happen and have been happening since impurities in the oil break the pipe. A contaminated water will be drunk by thousands even millions, few of them native. The Indians say water is life.

Government keeps selling land to those would extract oil, gas, use chemically enhanced fracking, all which destroy the plants and animals that live in the region including, humans, to earn magabucks for the few. ICE seizes the children of undocumented immigrants crossing the southern border. Babies, toddlers, are pulled out the arms and from the hands of parents and then sent to far away stations. Parents are told that their children are going to get a shower never to return. For most, there is no explanation. . Parents likely will never see their child again. Government says they do this to discourage immigrants. It’s cruelty is beyond explanation. The AG calls it an act of law. They even quote parts of the bible to make it sound God ordained. The tiny part they quote was favored by Good Christian slave holders. What ever happened to the separation of church and state?

But above all, taking away kids is a money maker. They will build tent cities on army bases. The private corporations running this concentration camp will make a mint. For the kids it is a deadly loss. They are destroyed by the loss of their loving parent. Have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) from which they will never recover.

One father of a 3-year old son torn from his arms committed suicide that night in his cell by hanging. A so-called expert about suicide called the man weak. Said mentally stronger people could handle such a terrible loss. This so-called expert minimized the effects of such abuse to fit in with the submissive crowd

A season of madness is upon us. Madness is a form of disconnection. It is only when we are hand to hand, heart to heart and eye to eye with others including the non-human world that we come to sanity. Instead we scorn the homeless people sleeping on the street. We scorn the people sickened by pollution in their slums until the poison surrounds and kills us all.

Take the Price Tag Off

Everything has a price on it, and, for most, the price is exceedingly low but only for those who have got the bucks. We of that impoverished socio-economic class are expendable. The two things necessary for life, air and water, are for sale. Soon we will have water wars and drought tombs, while scarcity and waste create markets to propel those few at the top.

The corporations want to exude their waste into the air and water without paying for it and not looking back. They bribe the officials who are there to profit by selling off natural resources. Nestle’s corporation cornered Michigan that way, taking 400 tons of water per minute out of a great lake, every day for free.

On the other hand, the people of Flint Michigan drink filthy water from corroded pipes pouring lead into their children’s brains, to save the state some pennies. Recently, they even stopped sending bottled water while the lead keeps pouring in. Only the rich get saved.

Life on the globe with ever less drinking water is unfortunate but also very profitable for the “thems” that control it. Money is a thing we have been taught to worship. Do you own stocks in a water eating firm? Do you pull down your mental shades so as not to see what it is being taken away and used up? You are thinking of retirement. Need money for that. Period.

Is everything for sale? Should it be? Do you think of the 7th generation when determining whether and what to do? Drilling for oil in the Arctic park as Trump intends will kill countless species. But look at the profit oil will make for the few. Given our obsession with extraction as if there need be no limit, it is a time for most us of to become extremely poor, a time of unbelievable profit for the few. How we admire those who are riding high. Our admiration is bizarre. We are applauding our downfall. Some even say that god has favored those who “got it.” They worship the god of theft.

Do we feel paralyzed and helpless? Do we hope to join the rich pack? Do we not know how to do anything about their price on the world? Are we afraid to talk about it and get on the rich folk’s kill’em list?

We need to live in a priceless world. Everything needs a right to exist, none above and none below. We need to protect Mother Earth and leave life in all its forms to reproduce, to morph into something new and wonderful. Hooray for the unexpected. We join the family of the living.

We need to greet each species with wonder. How amazing and beautiful. What talents does it possess? We enjoy as we pass each other with a spoken hello. We embrace those that come forward. We celebrate life. We protect water and air as a shared resource, not as a profit potential.

Passionate but Lonely

Dear Citizens,

Am heart driven by the plan to set up green get-togethers in every community small and large in our world, eventually to speak together and become “one.” We will share how to preserve and save and recover from the ways we have been destroying our environment. This includes chopping down all the trees which create the oxygen we breathe as well as the sea plankton which do the same, our unceasing, careless and unnecessary use of fossil fuels, and its myriad of detrimental effects, eating all the fish we don’t throw back dead, releasing foul pollutants into land and sky and water, losing topsoil to the winds of drought and the necessity for everyone to have a royal acre to create a lawn rather than preserve our relationship to Mother Earth while growing only necessary foo, giving wildlife, our brothers and sisters, a place to live.

What I want us to do is bring together people all doing the “green thing” locally and nationally, to get together and show each other our work so that we can share and do and sell and teach. The few people, the very few absorbing the entire riches of the globe, are unimaginably short-sighted since a terrible death awaits them too. No air to breath. No water to drink. No food to eat since nothing grows in such pollution. How can these one-percenters rise above this situation with a mountain of cash?

Please write me at elangolomb@gmail.com to become part of this wonderful way to share our power and wisdom, to learn and share and teach. It will be a wonderful experience of a growing bunch of friends. I feel my heart warming and expanding awaiting to hear from you.

Withdraw into Community

Spoke to a friend about a comment I heard Jill Stein make about the scientific prediction that by the turn of the century half of all our animal life on earth will be extinct and we as part of this interdependent world will be gone.

She began scolding me in an excited, angry voice. Said that Jill Stein was part of a Russian conspiracy. She saw it on the internet. I responded that several US officials were at that same Putin attended dinner in Russia which did not place them in the conspiracy spotlight. Said her questioning the conspiracy of power leads those who “own it all” to discredit her. The news funded by these powerful owners is used to stealing power from rivals rather than alarm us into taking measures that concern survival.

Our current Republican government, and some Democrats too, with a corporate money fueled “burn it ” agenda do not reject Trump’s belief that Global Warming is a Chinese hoax. They say to look at the freezing weather affecting the east coast. They do not know that this arctic chill is associated with the arctic heat wave. The congress, so much funded by carbon mining and selling corporations, will not endorse the need to stop using these products. They do not consider that what is already in the air will create a world of flood and fire, a death of living things.

People need to get involved with environmental movements, NIMBY (not in my backyard) or organizations facing world demolition. People need to consider the coming food shortages as our burn-it-up philosophy leads to unavailability of food (and medicines). Importation of food will cease as fertile parts of the world turn into swamp or desert.

Join a group that raises a garden. Create a garden on your window sill. Have dehydrated stores of food for that just-in-case time. Have a store of water so that If there is a breakdown in electricity and the pumps don’t work. Have a solar collector on your window sill or get the now developing solar windows which just stick on the glass and gather energy night and day. To your energy collector you attach a battery and from them power your heating device, refrigerator, lamp, cell phone, radio.

Create a community in which people’s skills are shared. Retreat from membership in a society of 300 plus million in which the Federal Government determines whether we live or die. Create a family of man … and beast. Cut down to zero (or as close as you can) to eating animals. The way they are raised in factory farms is torture. The carbon footprint on meat is horrendous. Our bodies can thrive on veggies. Don’t fall for advertising trying to get you to buy buy buy new things to “support the economy.” Create an economy in which the money goes round and round with no rich cat walking off with most of it. Look at Mondragon, a self-sustaining huge interrelated economy in Spain started by a priest some 50 years ago. No inflation. No top and no bottom earners. No one moves out. And why would they?

Security on the job. Beauty of the surroundings sustained by a community that cares. Peace. Joy. Love.

Hubris

No better cage

For the snowball effect

than pride left unchecked

like a runaway train

Momentum only grows

and the destination

is long gone

and destruction is inevitable

just a matter of time

before the whole thing derails

for what was a force

of strength

is all but lost to chaos

all that’s left

is the crash

We are carried away by the hubris of the politicians mad with power and lying to suppress our fear. Know that you are afraid that the destruction our country pours around the world has now come home to us. It is us who have to put on the brakes. We cannot do it individually but only as a mighty “we,” an “us,” “noi” in Italian, as Pope Francis just said it on HuffPost. See the speech. It’s wonderful.

Allow Yourself to Feel

I saw a polar bear struggling on the ice, falling, pulling itself up, then falling again and again, finally giving up and staying down. This was not characteristic of the species, a majestic animal that thrives in that environment, but man had made the bear weak. I wept and wept, thinking of the dying species—not because of some sort of natural selection, but because of our chemical waste, our need to extract from the land and use the land on which to spew pollutants (it costs money to extract them), because of our lack of caring for life. I cried some more.

I told a dear friend about my tears and he said that polar bears are the only animals that will kill humans simply for pleasure. I laughed with him but part of me felt how humor, and even facts, keep us away from feeling tragedy. People do it with dry facts, with marijuana and alcohol and mood-altering drugs, both legal and otherwise. Boy, are we ever prepared! This is a sarcastic remark. It means the opposite.

Perhaps the fact person and the drug taker would be overwhelmed by feeling. Perhaps our culture has taught us to feel ashamed of weeping or shouting. Shhhhh. Keep it in. But we need to fully feel. Feeling our pain, our terror, our loss, keeps us present and within the realm of reality.

For example, we need to know what our bombing is doing to the rest of the world—children with burned faces, eleven-year-olds working in factories or in mines. What has so long been denied, ignored, subverted by dry facts or humor, is increasingly happening to us.

Turn your eyes away. But blindness does not protect you. And how could using devices to keep us from feeling make anything better? It is childish, magical thinking. The psychopathic politicians use your fear to control you. They promise you protection while they covertly doom us all. They are greedy users who are making sure that they will have much more than enough. The more we are taught to feel ashamed of showing feeling, the more likely we will fall into their pit of robbery, disease, and death.

Know that bad is coming. See it. Feel it. And be prepared. Figure out alternative ways to maintain yourself (and your family if they are with you). The ability to feel the pain all around us is a sign of strength.  Seeing reality for what it is keeps us from putting our faith in politicians who make false promises. It makes us self reliant. It helps us create extended families we call friends who will work collectively, share the pain, the joy and the fun of the job of creating change.
